An enchanting day of industrial charm for Vicky and Simon at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe
Vicky and Simon got engaged in 2012 but decided to delay their wedding so that Vicky could go back to university. And oh was their wedding worth the wait! They planned their day to perfection at this utterly unique former textiles mill in the Ribble Valley. Holmes Mill is something else and it’s easy to understand why Vicky and Simon were completely smitten with it. Pour yourself a glass of bubbles and enjoy a taste of this beautiful wedding.
Dating back to 1823, Holmes Mill prides itself on being a unique celebration of Lancashire's food, drink and entertainment. With a boutique hotel, beer hall and hotel (and then some), it has everything that you need for an incredible wedding.
Vicky and her bridal party got ready in a suite at the Spinning Block Hotel. Hair and make up were perfected by the talented Amy Lauren and Katrina Deegan. Nothing was too much trouble for these amazing ladies.
As the service time drew closer, the bridal party were shown up to the penthouse to put the final touches to hair, make up and put on the all important wedding dress. I don’t think that anyone managed to hold back the tears as Vicky was buttoned into her dress and her vintage veil put in place.
A short walk to the rustic Party Room in the main building of Holmes Mill and it was time for the service to take place. Vicky’s bridesmaids walked down the aisle in dusky lilac dresses with bouquets of sunflowers. As Vicky walked down the aisle her lace, tea-length dress was a breathtaking contrast with the industrial interior, festoon lights and metal columns.
Following the service the newlyweds celebrated with a drinks reception in the Engine Room of the beer hall at Holmes Mill. As the name suggests this room does actually house an original engine known as Elizabeth, dating back to 1910. The guests enjoyed local beers from the on-site Bowland Brewery and prosecco adorned with flower petals. After some bubbles and gossiping with their lovely friends and family, I snuck Vicky and Simon away for a few photographs together. We had a wander around Holmes Mill for some gorgeous couple photos together in the Lancashire sunshine. I don’t like to take couples away from the party for too long, but a few moments away together as newlyweds is a must!
Following a gorgeous meal and fabulous speeches, Vicky and Simon cut their (cheese) cake. This was created by ‘Cheesie Jan’, from the Bowland Food Hall. I LOVE a cake made entirely of cheese and this was perfection - made with Lancashire cheese and tracklements of course! After a perfect first dance to Ray LaMontagne, this beautiful pair danced the night away.
Holmes Mill is unlike any other venue that I have had the pleasure of visiting. It is an enchanting combination of rustic charm and industrial chic that helped to make Vicky and Simon’s wedding day everything that they dreamed of. Holmes Mill is an absolute dream for a wedding photographer and the possibilities for amazing photographs were endless!
